The founder of the Christ Living Church in Owo, Pastor Tunde Adekunle has divorced his wife of 15 years, Mrs Agbeke Adekunle, over allegations that she beat him at every given opportunity and humiliated him in public, including in his church.
The pastor had dragged his estranged wife before a Customary Court sitting in Akure, claiming public assault.
In his testimony before the court, the 50-year-old clergyman removed his clothes and showed visible scars that he claimed were inflicted on him by his belligerent wife, whom he said was always looking for any slight opportunity to pick a quarrel with him.
He told the court to separate them so that he could live in peace as there was no longer any love between him and his wife.
On the other hand, the defendant promptly denied the allegations that she publicly disgraced and beat up her husband but consented to the dissolution of the marriage, stating that she also wanted to enjoy some peace.
After listening to arguments from both sides, the President of the Court, Mrs Olayinka Falodun said that the court had enough reason to believe that the marriage between the Adekunles was beyond redemption and promptly went on to dissolve it.
