PDP Chieftain Urges Lagos High Court to Stop Agbaje’s Gubernatorial Ambition

Nurudeen Balogun, a Peoples Democratic Party Chieftain in Lagos has urged a Lagos High Court to stop one of the party’s governorship aspirants, Jimi Agbaje from contesting for the Party Primaries slated for December 8 because he only joined the party this year.

PDP and Independent National Electoral Commission also joined in the suit.

In an affidavit attached to the suit and filed by Balogun’s counsel, Clement Onwuenwunor, Balogun claimed that in accordance with Section 50(9) of the PDP’s Constitution, only aspirants with minimum of two years membership span were eligible to stand for election into any public office under the platform of PDP and Agbaje joined the party in July 2014, therefore he is ineligible to contest as gubernatorial aspirant.

Balogun also maintained that Agbaje has never paid his registration dues and regular annual subscription fees for renewal of his membership.

He also urged the court to declare that only a duly registered member of PDP that can present himself and pick up Expression of Interest/Nomination Forms for 2015 Governorship election in Lagos State.

The suit is yet to be assigned to a Judge as no date has been fixed for hearing.
