Peter Obi mourns as road accident claims 12 Salvation Army clerics, 2 others

Presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has commiserated with Salvation Army Ministry International over an accident that claimed the lives of 12 of its pastors on the bridge across the Ovia River along the Benin-Lagos Expressway.

A statement issued by the Pub­lic Relations Secretary of the Salvation Army Ni­geria Territory, Major Daniel Ekong confirmed the fatal road accident.

Ekong said the victims were returning from Officers’ Councils Conference in Lagos.

“The Salvation Army has lost twelve of its officers (pas­tors), a baby and a driver in a fa­tal accident (that) occurred at the Ovia River close to Benin City, the Edo State capital on Thursday June 29, 2023,” the statement read in part.

Reacting in a statement he personally signed on Saturday, Peter Obi said, “I received with shock, the heartwrenching report of a fatal road accident involving members of the Salvation Army, which claimed the lives of 12 officers (pastors), a baby and the driver.

“I sincerely commiserate with the Salvation Army, I received with shock, the heartwrenching report of a fatal road accident involving members of the Salvation Army, which claimed the lives of 12 officers (pastors), a baby and the driver.

“I sincerely commiserate with the Salvation Army.”
