The vice presidential candidate of Labour Party, Dr. Doyin Okupe, says the party can coast to victory in 2023 without an established political “structure”.

He stated this in a terse statement titled, “Structure And Lessons From Ekiti Elections” which he shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

He said that the Social Democratic Party (SDP) proved that a party without structure can make serious impact at the polls when it performed better than the well established Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded gubernatorial election in Ekiti.

Recall that SDP’s Segun Oni polled 82,211 votes while the candidate of the PDP, Bisi Kolawole scored 67,457 votes.

Okupe said, “The Ekiti elections have come and gone. It has also been won and lost. But surprisingly, a single man, Segun Oni, joined a new and very little known political party, the SDP, in less than 6 months, with meager financial resources, defeated the Almighty PDP, with its established long existing and wide spread political structure, to come second in the governorship elections.

“If it was a state wide general elections, the SDP would have won some house assembly seats.

“THE LESSON HERE IS THAT ITS THE PEOPLE DRIVEN BY THEIR BELIEF AND COMMITMENT, THAT CONSTITUTES A RELIABLE AND ENDURING POLITICAL STRUCTURE, NOT NAME OF PARTY OR EVEN MONEY DEPLOYED.

“THE LABOUR PARTY AND THE MASSIVE PETER OBI MOVEMENT IN NIGERIA TODAY WILL MAKE A MINCE MEAT OF THE ESTABLISHED POLITICAL STRUCTURES IF BOTH THE APC AND PDP IN THE FULLNESS OF TIME.”
