Police arraign fashion designer in court for alleged assault

The police, on Wednesday, arraigned a 24-year-old fashion designer, Aliu Azeez, at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly stabbing  his friend with a broken  bottle.

Azeez, who resides at No. 2 Association Avenue, Shangisha, Lagos, is facing one-count charge of assault but he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp Ishola Samuel, told the court that the accused committed the  alleged offence on March 18, at No. 5, Association Avenue, Shangisha, Lagos.

He said the accused used a broken bottle to stab the complainant, Babatunde Yusuf, all over his hand and body, following an argument on football, which ensued between them.

The prosecutor said that the complainant was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

According to him, the offence contravenes Sections 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).‎‎

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 173 stipulates a three- year jail term for offenders.‎

The magistrate, Mrs A.I. Abina, granted the accused bail  of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to April 11 for mention. (NAN)
