Any policeman on patrol, stop and search or checkpoint duties must wear approved service uniform or risk facing sanctions, police authorities have said.

Acting Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi stated this in a statement he signed and issued on Thursday.

He said that no policeman must be seen standing on any Nigerian road wearing mufti or any T-shirt with inscriptions like Special Forces, Commando, Gallant Mopol, Scorpion etc.

According to Adejobi, the directive is to bring sanity to policing in the country.

“Policemen detailed for patrol, stop and search, check point duties must be on their approved uniform, not T-shirt with inscriptions like Special Forces, Commando, gallant mopol, scorpion etc.

“No policeman is expected to stand on any Nigerian road on mufti or such disapproved T-shirts; any policeman found wanting will be arrested and dealt with. We are committed to bringing sanity to policing in Nigeria.”

  • Who enforces this law? Is it just to reel out orders from FHQTRS without same people to give teeth to the order? How do you arm a people without close marking them? These policemen are ruthless and have no respect for orders. They trample on innocent citizens recklessly without anyone watching them. Until there is close monitoring of Police operatives, any order contrary to their criminal shenanigans is just to play to the gallery.
We once heard of motorised patrol but go along shagamu – Ore – Benin – Onitsha expressway and see how much of criminals police operatives have become. Stop deceiving Nigerians, do the right thing. Apply more stringent method at monitoring your men.
