President Goodluck Jonathan has pledged the sum of N2 million as a token gift for all the players in the Golden Eaglets squad that brought home the World Cup. The President said the players would also be conferred with National Honours at the next awards.

President Jonathan said the rewards were in fulfillment of his promise when he told them to conquer the world.

The President also provided a N3 million gift to the Head Coach, N2.5 million to assistant coaches, N500,000 to team doctor, physiotherapist and secretary. As well as N300,000 for the coordinator, medical officers, and the curator.

The President also encouraged the Private Sector to get involved in rewarding the players as he said no amount of reward was too much for the youngsters.

He said ”with commitment and hard work, from being the second best in Africa, the Eaglets had transformed to the best in the world by winning the World Cup”.

”The victory of the Eaglets was for the whole of Africa and the beginning of the revival in the nation’s sorts sector,” Jonathan said.

“The team, the handlers, the coaches and the officials including some key members of the supporters club and the Nigerian Football Federation will all be rewarded when we give national honours,” he said.

He thanked the team for bringing honour and pride to Nigerians.
