A former governor of old Kaduna state, Balarabe Musa has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to prosecute individuals involved in the annulment of the June 12, Presidential elections, including former Military President, Ibrahim Babangida.
Balarabe made the call while commemorating Democracy Day celebrations in Kaduna, insisting that those who annuled the June 12 elections are directly responsible for the challenges being faced by Nigeria today.
The former politician, commended the president for the recognition of late Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the annuled June 12 election but urged him to complete the job.
He said Buhari should investigate the circumstances surrounding the event, identify the responsible parties and punish them accordingly to prevent a future reoccurrence.
“If President Muhammadu Buhari does not go further and do this, anybody can do same thing that Babangida did and got away with it; up till now, he (Babangida) is getting away with it. We must make sure that does not happen,” he said.
Balarabe Musa also urged Nigerian leaders to improve the socio-economic, political and cultural systems controlling development in the country.
According to him, Nigeria’s growth is based on a socialist reconstruction starting with the leading role of the economy to ‘ensure equality, justice, dignity of human and progressive development.”
