The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has called on Nigerians to always board vehicles in government approved motor parks to avoid falling into the hands of bad elements on the high way.

Alhaji Abdullahi Gandu, the State Organising Secretary, Nasarawa State Council of NURTW made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday.

“We are calling on passengers to know that boarding vehicle outside the park is dangerous; the disadvantages are more than the advantages.

“Some people claimed that they board vehicles outside the park because of inadequate transport fare; some is because they are in haste to travel and come back that same day.

“We in the parks are human beings and we have feelings; if a passenger comes with a cry of lack of adequate transportation fare, we assist; we even put them in the vehicle for free.

“ I want to tell passengers that boarding a vehicle in the park is more honourable and better than boarding outside the park,’’ Gandu stressed.

The NURTW official said some people that boarded vehicle outside the motor park could be criminal elements, like car snatchers, pick pockets and armed robbers.

According to him, the difference in transport fare is always not more than 30 per cent, adding that the re-bait is not worth the risk.

“Some times a passenger may forget his luggage or be involved in an accident while on transit; relations can easily be traced if he or she boarded vehicle in the park as there is manifest filled by all passengers

“ But outside the park, it will be difficult tracing the relations of the dead or wounded passenger,’’ Gandu said. (NAN)
