The deceased mother of two and wife was allegedly killed by her husband due to severe beating. Reports emerging can now confirm that the cause of Ronke Shonde’s death was due to a respiratory seizure.

Various online platforms including this one had reported yesterday that the preliminary results showed that Lekan Shonde might not have been directly responsible for his wife’s death after all.

It has now been confirmed that she was not directly killed by violence.

The autopsy report cited one of the chief cause of death as Respiratory Seizure. The autopsy was transferred to the police yesterday at 8:45pm

According to Thisday, The autopsy which was finally concluded on yesterday by pathologist at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), examined amongst other things, the bruises on her skin.
It is unclear what exactly triggered the respiratory seizure. A source told Thisday that seizures can be caused by a change in the behavioral state resulting from an abnormal electrical activity in the brain.

The major question now is whether the autopsy report will exonerate Lekan Shonde who has all the while maintained his innocence in the matter, to this the medical source said that seizures can be caused by either a severe blow to the head, acute fever or severe case of intoxication.

He explained that people suffering from the seizure could first lose consciousness, leading to stiffening of the body with forceful expiration of air from the throat.

The doctor said that an episode of the seizure while standing up without support could well lead to a fatal fall.

Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmus confirmed receipt of the autopsy but stopped short at revealing whether it was enough to exonerate the suspect.

She said  “I can confirm that the result is out this night but I cannot give further details. There is a directive from the Inspector General of Police that nobody should comment on the autopsy because it’s for the purpose of investigation.”
