Elder statesman, Tanko Yakasai has backed APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s unveiling of Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2023 election.

Recall that Tinubu announced the nomination of the Borno Central senator on Sunday after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State.

Describing Tinubu’s choice as the right one, Yakasai said that a Muslim-Muslim ticket can win an election in Nigeria.

He recalled that late Bashorun MKO Abiola, a Muslim and presumed winner of the 1993 presidential election, ran with a fellow Muslim vice-presidential candidate, Amb. Babagana Kingibe.

“We have had it before, MKO Abiola and Kingibe, and they won the election. It’s just that the military canceled the election, but they won. Muslim-Muslim ticket can win election in Nigeria.

“Do you think it will be right for Tinubu, a Muslim who is a minority in the South to pick a Christian who are minority in the north as his running mate and you expect him to win the election? You cannot,” Yakasai said.
