Despite being known for her heartfelt and relatable songs about heartbreak, Simi confessed that she has never personally experienced the pain of a broken heart in a relationship.
As the wife of Afrobeats superstar Adekunle Gold and a mother to their adorable child, Simi humorously mentioned that her heartbreak songs are not inspired by her own experiences. She jokingly emphasized that perhaps her ability to create such relatable music stems from her championing those who have gone through heartbreak.
During the discussion, Simi explained her thought process behind her latest heartbreak song, titled ‘Stranger.’ She revealed that the song came to her effortlessly, even though she has never gone through heartbreak herself. She explained that her inspiration for the song came from a unique perspective—feeling like a changed person within a relationship, accepting things and adapting to circumstances that she wouldn’t have before. Simi wanted to explore the emotions and introspection that arise when you look at yourself in the mirror and realize you no longer recognize the person you’ve become.
