“Sokoto diocese is under attack” – Bishop Kukah’s aide confirms abduction of 2 priests

Rev. Fr Christopher Omotosho, the Director, Social Communications of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, which is led by Bishop Matthew Kukah, says the diocese is under attack.

He stated this while reacting to reports that some gunmen invaded the rectory of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Gidan Maikambo, in the Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State, and abducted two priests and two other persons.

The Sokoto Diocese covers Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi States.

“As at midnight of today, 25th May, 2022, gunmen broke into the rectory of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Gidan Maikambo, Kafur LGA of Katsina State.

“The parish priest and his assistant Rev. Frs. Stephen Ojapa, MSP, and Oliver Okpara and two boys in the house were kidnapped.

“No information as to their whereabouts. Kindly pray for their safety and release,” The Punch quoted Omotosho as saying.

The Sokoto State Police Command has yet to confirm the attack.

Recall that St Bahkita, the Secretariat of the Sokoto Diocese of the Catholic Church was attacked and torched by hoodlums on May 14, after the killing of Deborah Samuel.

The 200 level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education was killed by fellow students for alleged blasphemy.
