The Nigerian Army prevented an attack on a new generation church in the Jerusalem area of Damaturu, Yobe state on Sunday.

The Boko Haram suspect was stopped at a military checkpoint by Special Forces from Division 3 whilst he was driving towards the church.

One AK47 assault rifle and three Improvised Explosive Devices were found in the arsenal of weapons located inside the vehicles.

Army source said, “The man tried to attack some churches at the Jerusalem area of the city where there are many churches.

“He thought he could drive straight from the bush into the church but couldn’t because of the many barricades.

“The soldiers on duty were able to stop him, searched him and arrested him when they found the explosives and the AK 47 in his Honda car.”

In a related development, three Boko Haram members were arrested near a brothel on Saturday near Jango in Damaturu state.

The suspects engaged in a shootout with JTF which led to pandemonium in the area. AK47 rifles were recovered from the suspects.
