Super Eagles star, Samuel Kalu on Friday collapsed in training, one day before the team’s opening Group B game against Burundi at the ongoing African Cup of Nations.

The incident occurred in the Super Eagles camp in Alexandria, Egypt.

The 21-year-old Bordeaux winger was reportedly rushed to hospital where medical personnel quickly stabilised him.

He was said to have suffered from dehydration.

Top sport journalist, Colin Udoh, who is in Egypt with the team, tweeted: “Nigeria forward Samuel Kalu collapsed while trying to take a corner kick in training. Was immediately stabilised by team medical staff and taken to hospital for tests. Found to be dehydrated and advised to take more fluids.

“Team officials tell me he is fine now and remains in consideration for selection tomorrow like every other player.

“Despite that assurance, I have a feeling Gernot Rohr will err on the side of caution and not start him tomorrow v Burundi”.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied social media reports that Kalu suffered from a heart attack, insisting that it was a case of dehydration.

NFF spokesman, Ademola Olajire said that Kalu was in stable condition and has already returned to his room.

“He (Kalu) is fine now, he had a case of dehydration and that has been taken care of. He has been instructed to take a lot of fluids,” The Punch quoted him as saying.
