Suspected ritualist posing as madman apprehended in Delta (photo)

Members of a local vigilante group in Ughelli South council area of Delta state on Thursday evening, December 12, apprehended a suspected ritualist that was disguised as mentally-challenged persons.

The vigilante group trailed the suspect to his hideout located under a popular Otokutu Bridge in the area after they spotted him receiving phone calls like a normal person.

The Herald gathered that the suspect was allegedly found with a human skull, different types of phones and other items.

It was learnt that he threw one of the phones into the river on noticing that the local security team had discovered his antics.  The vigilante members grabbed, beat him severely and then handed him over to the police.

Earlier, The Herald gathered that police officers attached to the Oyo State Police Command apprehended two middle-aged men, Basiru Abdullahi, and Martin Adekola after they were caught in possession of human skulls.

The suspects who were from Ede part of Osun state were paraded before newsmen along with other 53 suspected criminals who had committed offenses such as cultism and robbery.

Basiru and Martin were, however, detained by the police on July 11 following the inconsistency in their explanations on how they got the human skulls.

In his reaction, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sina Olukolu, explained: “On July 11, 2019, at about 1600hrs patrol team attached to Ikoyi Ile/Ogbomoso road led by inspector Benjamin Olayiwola intercepted Abdullahi Basiru and Adekola Martin both of Oja Funi Area, Ede, Osun state with two human skulls.”

Olukolu said the suspects were expected to be arraigned in court after further investigations into the matter had been concluded.
