A Madhya Pradesh woman took revenge on the man who raped her at knifepoint by dousing him in kerosene and setting him on fire.
The deceased, who has been identified as Raju Vishvakarma, 38, died of burn injuries in a local hospital on Friday.
According to his dying declaration, the woman — who he raped — asked him to visit her house for negotiating an out of court settlement in the rape case on Thursday evening.
When Raju reached her house, the victim, with the help of her brothers, doused him in kerosene and set him on fire.
Raju was taken to hospital by local villagers who saw him burning, said sources.
“We have just received the information of his death. We have booked the rape victim and her family members on charges of murder going by Raju’s statement,” Rajesh Hingankar, superintendent of police (SP) Katni told TOI.
Vishvakarma had allegedly raped the 25-year-old woman of Nigehara village, under Badwara police station, on April 30. Police said Vishvakarma was released on bail in May.
