Three Kidnappers Killed, Two Captured in Gun Battle with Hunters in Kogi

Stakeholders caution Senate against criminalising payment of ransom to kidnappers

Three kidnappers were killed while two others were captured when they engaged in a gun battle with a combined team of hunters and neighborhood watch members in Kogi state on Saturday.

The incident happened along Lokoja-Okene highway after members of the neighborhood watch arrested two of their informants who revealed that other members of the gang were planning to stage a kidnap attack on the highway.

The Senior Special Adviser on Security from Okehi Local Government Area, Abdulraheem Ohiare and his colleague from Adavi, Jospeh Salami, thereafter led hunters to the hideout of the gang after the arrested informants confessed.

At the hideout, a gun battle ensued leading to the death of three gang members.

The Lokoja-Okene highway has been plagued with kidnappers and armed robbers who have terrorized travellers on the road for months without respite.

Just last week, the wife of the former speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Zakawanu Garuba who died in Abuja was abducted while escorting the corpse for burial in Auchi, Edo state.
