President Bola Tinubu has sympathised with the ruling Sabah family, the government, and the people of the State of Kuwait over the passing of the Emir,  Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale stated this in a statement on Saturday.

The Kuwaiti court announced the Emir’s demise today.

“With great sadness and sorrow, we – the Kuwaiti people, the Arab and Islamic nations, and the friendly peoples of the world – mourn the late His Highness the emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, who passed away to his Lord today,” Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah al-Sabah, the minister of his emiri court, said in a statement aired on state television on Saturday.

Although no cause of death was given, the court announced the start of a 40-day official mourning period and a three-day closure of government departments.

Applauding the achievements of the late Emir in such a short time, President Tinubu described the monarch as a man of great compassion, peace, and mercy, who granted amnesty to political prisoners and dissidents, fashioning a progressive and stable state.

“The President condoles with the ruling House of Sabah, and all those who mourn this painful loss while praying to Almighty Allah to show the Emir mercy and grant him a place in Aljannah Firdaus,” the presidential statement read in part.
