Tottenham Release Adebayor By Mutual Consent

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the release of Togolese striker, Emmanuel Adebayor, one-year into the expiration of his contract with the club.

The club said the termination was based on mutual consent, after club manager Mauricio Pochettino stated earlier this month that Adebayor was not “in my mind or in the plans for the future of Spurs”.

Adebayor is yet to play a part in Tottenham’s season after he was left out of the Premier League and Europa League teams.

Aston Villa and West Ham had wanted to sign the 31-year-old during the summer transfer window but had been put off by his high wage demands.

Adebayor was signed on a permanent deal from Manchester City in 2012 in a deal said to be around the £5 million range after a loan spell in the 2011-2012 season, and went on to rake in 35 goals in 87 appearances.

He has featured for clubs like Monaco, Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid in a career spanning 14 years in Europe.
