One of a mother’s happiest days is usually when her children get married, but for this woman it also turned out to be her last.
The woman was on her way to her daughter’s wedding in Delta state and in a bid to beat the environmental sanitation exercise, had left her house early.
She was with a tricycle operator popularly called keke napep when they approached Jakpa Junction, Effurun, near Warri, they were flagged down by soldiers. The tricycle operator apprehensive of what might happen if they were stopped tried to keep going.
News Agency Thisday reports that a soldier opened fire on the tricycle killing the woman instantly hitting her just under her left breast according to the victim’s daughter Alero.
Thisday reports that the incident occurred at about 8.30a.m and that the body of the deceased woman was brought to the Ekpan police state later, before being taking to the morgue by the police at about 10.10 a.m.
