Two Foreign Operated Airplanes involved in Head on Collision at Lagos International Airport

Two Airplanes had a head on collision at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMA), causing an uproar at the international wing of the airport.

The accident occured when a Middle East Airlines (MEA) owned Airbus A330-243 ran into a Boeing 777 Airplane owned by Turkish Airlines.

According to several unconfirmed reports, the Airplanes were running commercial services under the guise of medical evacuations.

An airport source, reporting the incident said the Turkish Airline operated Boeing 777 was a cargo Airplane which was parked on the tarmac before the MEA Airbus ran into it.

“The Turkish cargo flight was parked at the tarmac when the MEA airbus ran into it l, ripping off part of the empennage of the aircraft. The MEA flight was taxiing when it happened.”

Passengers in the MEA Airbus who had been waiting for the flight for hours had to be evacuated from the plane after the collision, causing some uproar at the international wing of the airport.

International flights are still restricted in Nigeria with only essential and evacuation flights allowed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Domestic flights have however resumed in 14 airports across the country.
