Two policeman killed, one injured as gunmen open fire in Imo

Two police officers were fatally shot and another injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire at Okpala junction in Ngor Okpala council area of Imo state.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Henry Okafor confirmed the development to journalists in the state capital, Owerri, on Saturday.

According to the police spokesman, an operational vehicle belonging to the hoodlums was recovered at the scene.

“Two of our men paid the supreme price, one of them was injured. We recovered one of the operational vehicles of the hoodlums.

“There were piercing of bullets and stains of blood in the vehicle of the hoodlums which shows that our men gave them a battle. We are currently trailing the hoodlums who are on the run,” Okafor said.

The killing of the policemen is just one of many wanton loss of lives occasioned by the nefarious activities of gunmen in Ngor Okpala area in recent times.

In March 2023, two officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC) and a worker with a telecom firm, MTN were killed.

In April, five policemen were equally killed while trying to eat at a restaurant.
