“The peacekeeper is in complete isolation at the UNIFIL Naqoura Hospital, and all the precautionary measures have been followed to prevent further spread of the virus,” UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti said.

Tenenti, who declining to give the nationality of the peacekeeper, said that the peacekeeper returned from a leave abroad on March 15.

He said that four other peacekeepers who had been in direct contact with the patient had been put under quarantine.

“Three of them have tested negative for Covid-19, while the results of the fourth peacekeeper are pending.

“All of them will continue to remain in quarantine as per the UNIFIL standard procedures,” he said.

The UN peacekeepers were first deployed in southern Lebanon in 1978. Lebanon and Israel are still in a state of war.
