United Nations Children’s Fund has partnered with leading hotels booking platform Jovago to promote birth registration in Africa.

According to HealthNewsNG, UNICEF estimated that about 50 per cent of children in sub-Saharan Africa are not officially recognised by their respective governments due to lack of poor registration.

The global programme tagged “Passport to Protection” is aimed at accelerating birth registration.

UNICEF has adopted ICT to speed up the registration process, maximizing popular channels such as mobile devices which have gone a long way in strengthening the process.

Managing Director for Jovago East and Southern Africa, Estelle Verdier described the initiative as a noble one which would ensure that no child is denied their rights due to lack of recognition by its own government or state.
