The Super Falcons of Nigeria on Monday crashed out of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Randy Waldrum-tutored side lost on penalties to the Three Lionesses of England in the Round of 16.

Despite having Lauren James red-carded in the 87th minute, the Three Lionesses held their West African opponents for the remainder of regular time and put up a solid defensive fence in extra time to keep the scoreline 0-0.

The Sarina Wiegman-tutored Lionesses scraped into the quarter-finals on penalties, beating Nigeria 4-2  in Brisbane.

They will face Colombia or Jamaica on Saturday for a place in the semi-finals.

With Nigeria’s ouster, Morocco, who play France on Tuesday in another round of 16 game, remain the last African team in the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup.
