In his tenth La Liga game, Gary Neville has won a league match with Valencia.
He was put through the emotional grinder again on Saturday night as he watched his young team fall behind after a goalkeeping mistake from Diego Alves.
But they scrambled level thanks to an Alvaro Negredo strike and then Denis Cheryshev dived full-length to give them all three points and his manager his first taste of victory in La Liga since he took over 10 weeks ago.
“Football isn’t about putting on the best performance today was not as polished a as previous weeks but we got the result,” said Neville.
“It’s one small step. The fans were the most incredible tonight. When we went 1-0 down they stayed with all the players and they stayed with me. The win tonight was not about tactics it was about those fans staying with us.”
