Manchester United coach Louis Van Gaal has confirmed defender Marcos Rojo picked up a shoulder injury during Sunday’s 1 – 0 derby defeat to Manchester City.

The Argentine professional clashed with Martin Demichelis in a sliding tackle and damaged his shoulder.

He was taken off the pitch on a stretcher and replaced by teenager Paddy McNair.

“Marcos Rojo has gone to the hospital. His shoulder was out. I don’t think he can play against Crystal Palace,” Van Gaal told the club TV.

“The shoulder is out, you never know how long that will take, I have to wait until tomorrow I think but he shall not play against CrystalPalace,” he told Sky Sports.

“We have a lot of injuries in defence but you have seen how Michael Carrick and Paddy McNair came in. I don’t think that is the problem.

“We still have 11 players to play and also very good players, so I don’t cry for that but it is sometimes difficult to select the best team, but I think i can manage that and we are close, you can see it every week, but you need more points.

“I see the fans are applauding after the game, so they see also that the boys are willing to give everything for the shirt of the club.”

Manchester United will play Crystal Palace on Saturday without Rojo and also Chris Smalling who was sent off during the match and given a one-match suspension.
