The State of Osun governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has urged pro-democracy activists and organisations in Nigeria to ensure the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen Muhammadu Buhari at next year’s polls saying its imperative for those who had, in the past, rendered selfless services to their fatherland to confront dictatorial governments and instil democratic rules.

The governor, according to a release by his Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy in the Office of the Governor, Semiu Okanlawon, spoke in Osogbo at the 50th birthday lecture and presentation of a book in honour of a renowned pro-democracy and human rights activist, Comrade Amitolu Shittu.

Aregbesola, who addressed some notable activists, who came to honour Shittu, said the current challenges facing Nigeria arose from the alleged ineptitude of the present ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“Wherever you find PDP, you will find misery, poverty, under-development. We must remember that the encounter of our people and experience especially in the South-West geo-political zone have never brought anything positive. From time immemorial, our people had associated their party with misfortune and till today, they remain the same,”Aregbesola told the audience.

The governor said the PDP government has foisted double tragedy on the people through lack of transparency in oil revenues, noting that even before the prices of crude oil crashed in the international market, the PDP-led Federal Government had robbed Nigerians of the oil fortunes through fraud of unimaginable proportions.

“The Federal Government is the authority in charge of the Navy, the Army, the police, Air Force, and other security agencies. Yet, they tell us that 400,000 barrels of crude were stolen. Who is stealing the crude oil? And these are despite a questionable contract for the protection of oil pipelines and waterways awarded to an individual. They have no other excuse to give. The only way is to vote them out,” he said.

Shittu, who lamented the hardship in the country, also urged Nigerians to use their only power to vote out anti-people government.

“Our voting power is the only power we all have and we must use it very well to reject bad governance and save ourselves the hell to which we are subjected,” he said.
