Veteran Nollywood actor Norbert Young sheds light on the income disparity between male and female actors in the Nigerian film industry. In a recent interview discussing Nollywood’s evolution and the gender pay gap, Young suggests bargaining power and audience appeal as potential factors.
Young highlights the importance of negotiation, stating, “Every actor has their own bargaining power, and maybe the women are bargaining better.” He emphasizes that success in securing higher pay might not be solely gender-based.
Young also touches on the potential influence of audience preferences. He says, “People love women and what they do,” implying that actresses might attract more investment or fan engagement, leading to higher pay for in-demand talent.
Young concludes by emphasizing the importance of individual goals: “Better is relative… what is better for you might not be better for me.“
