The Kogi State Government has given an explanation for the State Governor, Yahaya Bello’s decision to attend a Tuesday meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on crutches.

Buhari had met with all governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement by the governor’s media aide, Kingsley Fanwo, Bello fell from his official car on March 30 while attempting to attend, in Lokoja, the funeral of a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Umar Buba Jibril, who died in Abuja on Friday.

The incident, according to the statement, prevented Bello from attending the funeral and was represented by his deputy, Simon Achuba.

The government denied that the governor was hospitalised or incapacitated.

Reports said the governor tripped from his BMW car which was smaller than his official Toyota Prado Jeep and sprained his left foot and two arms.

The car was said to have dragged the governor for a few metres before he was rescued by agents on his security detail and others.

But the statement said Bello only injured his left leg and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Fanwo said the governor was given prompt medical attention by the doctors who quickly bandaged the leg and released him.
