Yahoo has announced that it will close several products in a bid to refocus its business.

Come April 30, Yahoo Upcoming, Yahoo Deals, Yahoo SMS alerts, Yahoo Kids and Yahoo! Mail and Messenger feature phone apps will be shut down as the web portal aims to build on core products and introduce new services.

Older versions of Yahoo! Mail will also bail out from June 3, along with Yahoo! Mail Classic.

“We realise that change is hard, but by making tough decisions like these we can focus our energy on building beautiful products,” said Jay Rossiter, the company’s Executive Vice President, platforms, in a blog post.

The latest product cull comes days after the company released a new tablet app for Yahoo! Mail and the Yahoo! Weather app for iPhone.

Earlier this month, Yahoo axed seven products, including its mobile app for Blackberry smartphones, as new CEO Marissa Mayer looks to reduce the 60 to 75 apps to around 12 to 15 in a wider restructuring plan.
