The Accord Party said on Tuesday that it would not withdraw the case it instituted in court challenging the conduct of the 2019 Local Government Elections in Zamfara, despite the dissolution of the councils by Gov. Bello Matawalle.
The State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Sirajo Bungudu, stated this at a press conference in Gusau on Tuesday while reacting to the recent dissolution of councils and appointment of caretakers by the governor.
“You know, our case challenging Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC) over the 2019 Local Government Elections in the state is still in the State High Court 4.

“We are challenging ZASIEC in court because it didn’t notify us as a political party before conducting the election as required by the law.
“Because of this reason, we joined other political parties to drag them to court,’’ he said.
Bungudu said that the party had asked the court to stop the commission from conducting the election, “but the judge could not stop them because we registered the application late.
“Therefore, we want to inform the general public that we have not withdrawn our case, we will continue to challenge them in court.
“Though, we heard that the Council Chairmen had recently defected to People’s Democratic Party (PDP), from All Progressives Congress (APC).
“We also heard that the Council Chairmen were dissolved by the state government and reappointed as caretaker chairmen.
“We don’t care about their defection from or to any political party, their dissolution and reappointment as caretakers, we will continue to challenge them in court,’’ he explained.
