The Rivers State governor and director general of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign organisation, Rotimi Ameachi, at the weekend stormed Jigawa State capital, Dutse, and held a closed door meeting with his counterpart in the state, Sule Lamido.

It was gathered that Ameachi arrived Jigawa State Government House late Saturday evening while the meeting was held on Sunday morning.

Even though all efforts to contact the host and the visiting governor on the essence of the meeting proved abortive as they drove off immediately after the meeting, it was gathered the meeting may not be unconnected with the forthcoming general election.

Lamido and Amaechi are long political allies. They fought and resisted what they called impunity in the Nigeria Governors Forum and they were both members of the defunct new People’s Democratic Party (nPDP) faction then led by Kawu Baraje.

Pundits said Amaechi might have paid the visit in order to woo Lamido to join the APC as five out of the G-7 governor are already in the party. Lamido, who is one of the PDP founding fathers, appears be favourably disposed to Buhari, having described him in many fora as a honest, patriotic and incorruptible person.

Lamido has in the past expressed his concern on the failure of leadership in the country and also the way country’s image retrogrades in the international community.

It will be recalled that the governor had also given terms for supporting the President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid. The conditions according to him include fulfilment of the 2011 campaign promises made to Jigawa people. However, a source close to Jigawa Government House revealed that, Ameachi was in the state on the invitation of his counterpart.
