The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), on Monday urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a level-playing ground for all contestants at upcoming governorship polls in Edo.
In a statement issued by National Director of Publicity, Mr Ifeanacho Oguejiofor, APGA said that a level-playing ground was crucial for transparent and credible poll.

The party also urged security agencies to live up to their constitutional responsibilities and ensure that the exercise was hitch-free.

The statement expressed APGA’s readiness for the election, adding that the party was currently mobilizing its members to ensure it emerged victorious in the elections.
“No matter any gimmick from any quarter, APGA remains the party to beat in the election,’’ it said.
On the logjam currently affecting Abia governorship tussle, the party said that it was studying the events as they unfolded.

“We are watching and studying the developments in Abia state as regards to judgment of the Federal High Court, FCT, and subsequent issuance of Certificate of Return to Chief Uche Ogah by INEC.
“APGA will surely come out with its position and take the necessary and appropriate actions shortly,’’ the statement said.

It urged Nigerians to be patient with the current administration in view of the current economic difficulties.
“The party feels the pains of average Nigerians in the present economic difficulties, but urges all, irrespective of political and other persuasions, to support the Federal Government.

“They should work with the government to fight the monsters that have ganged up to exploit and appropriate our common patrimony and destroy us as a people,’’ it said.

The party, however, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to take urgent steps to remedy and ameliorate the harsh economic situation in the country.

According to it, the situation cannot be attributed to the global economic recession only, but equally to some home-grown economic issues.
“This can be solved with better indigenous liberal approaches and policies, to stop the unprecedented hunger and the masses from dying in droves every day.
“While it is good to fight corruption, the masses have to be alive to savour and benefit from the war against looted funds,’’ it added. (NAN)
