The Orashi Consultative Forum, a socio-cultural organisation, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Mr Derick Mene as an executive director at the Niger Delta Development Commission.

A statement from its Coordinator, Dr Abraham Kitoye, and Secretary, Mr Amirize Eze, in Port Harcourt on Thursday said Mene’s appointment as executive director of finance and administration complied with the law setting up the commission and the constitution.

“We urge him to deploy expertise and work toward the development of Rivers in particular and the Niger Delta in general while promoting the core values of inter-cultural cooperation between the Ogoni people and Orashi people,” it said.

The statement also said that the region had produced two former managing directors, one executive director finance and administration and a state representative in the NDDC.

It called on the new appointee to emulate the outstanding qualities and legacies of other Orashi indigenes who served in the commission.

“We call on all Orashi people, irrespective of their political party, to support the new board of the commission and draw their attention to critical infrastructural needs of the region,” the statement added. (NAN)
