The newly appointed Emir of Kano, Mallam Lamido Sanusi is operating from a room at the Kano State Government House as he is yet unable to move into the Emir’s palace due to protests and unrest in the ancient city of Kano since he was appointed Emir.

This development is in violation of a 1,000 year old tradition where the Emir moves to the palace immediately after his appointment. Heavy police presence, however is present at the Emir’s palace in order to prevent protesters from overrunning the place.

Sanusi has been receiving guests and well wishers which include Alhaji Aliko Dangote; Governors Adams Oshiomole and Rochas Okorocha; and the Kano kingmakers at the Government House.

President Jonathan is scheduled to visit Kano today in order to pay a condolence visit to the family of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.

Kano State Police spokesman, Magaji Majia, said there was a decrease in protests and no security breach was recorded in the city on Tuesday.

  • Jonathan and his agents have failed to prevent the appointment of Sanusi. The President should concentrate on the protection of lives and properties of citizen, which he has failed, rather than involving in what does not concern him at all. If we were in a serious Country, the National Assembly would have impeached him for these failures. If he really has conscience, he should resign, as is happening in other countries.
