Executive Governor of Lagos Akinwunmi Ambode has gotten some of the big guns on his side to save his political ambitions ahead of next years elections.

According to a report on the Punch, the President, Muhammadu Buhari along with other political heavyweights including Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi; and Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu have intervened to help out Ambode in this sticky situation.

The Lagos Governor was reported to have fallen from the good books of APC leader Bola Tinubu and due to this was in a precarious situation which could see him lose out of the APC ticket for next years elections.

Yesterday, the Governor, while addressing people in Epe, said that there was no rift between him and Tinubu and that the former governor had his back.

Things took on a new twist when Dr Obafemi Hamzat and Jide Sanwoolu, two commissioners in the state, emerged as rivals to Ambode’s APC ticket bid. The two claimed to have been endorsed by Tinubu and with the primaries coming up in two weeks, things seemed to be dicey indeed.

While the Lagos state Governor has tried to claim that things are hunky dory, sources for the Punch state that the bigwigs have had to be brought in to try and diffuse the situation and bring peace between all warring parties.

“There are serious moves to end the crisis. Many people, including the President have waded in. And it is not yet too late for the issue to be resolved,” said the source.

“President Buhari, Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State and Oba Rilwan Akiolu are making efforts to ensure that the matter is resolved and Ambode’s second term bid is not terminated,”

According to the Punch, another source claimed that the problem was not between Ambode and Tinubu, but rather the Governor and state party leaders who feel he sidelined them from his administration.
