A 41-year-old man, Toyin Ogunmefu, was docked on Tuesday before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a Toyota Sienna bus

worth N500,000.

Ogunmefu, whose house address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, but he pleaded not

guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Edet Akadu, told the court that the defendant, with other persons currently at large, committed the offences on Sept.

3, 2019, at No. 24, Folarin St., Mushin.

Akadu said that the defendant conspired and stole a bus with registration No. AAA-944 DV, belonging to one Mr Ishmael Nwaibe.

The prosecutor added that Ogunmefu stole the car from where the owner parked it.

“The complainant reported the case at the Mushin Police Station.

“After a few months, Nwaibe received a phone call from the police informing him that his car had been recovered and the defendant

arrested,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for stealing and two-year imprisonment for

conspiracy.

Magistrate K.O. Ogundare granted Ogunmefu bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Ogundare said that the sureties must be gainfully employed, and he adjourned the case until Jan. 29, for mention.
