Karem Benzema ensured Real Madrid a straight flight into the Champions League Round of 16  with an early goal in their time out with Liverpool on Tuesday.

The Los Blancos held on to the one goal lead against an improved Liverpool and clinched 3 points as the final whistle was blown.

It was their second victory over Liverpool, having trashed the English side  3 – 0 at their last meeting at Anfield.

Coach Ancelotti was pleased with his team’s 4th win in the Champions League.

“It was a good game, we played at a very high rhythm,” the manager said.

“We scored in the first half and then controlled the game without having any risks at the back. We tried to score more goals, had many chances, but the game was under control and deserved win in the end.”

Christiano Ronaldo failed to score for Madrid for the first time in 13 matches; his eagerness to score was vivid but, he couldn’t find the net after about 10 attempts.

Ancelotti, however, tried to defend the interests of the starlet.

“I do not think Cristiano is anxious about scoring goals,” he said.

“He was focused on the game. We wanted to win and we won. He played a good game, tried to link-up with his teammates. He did not score tonight, but he will in the next game. He is already focused on that now.”
