Bandits Kill Police DPO, Abduct Two Women in Sokoto

Bandits killed two Police Officers and abducted two women in the wee hours of Thursday in Tangaza local government area of Sokoto State.

According to a report by Daily Trust, of of the Police officers killed by the bandits was the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gidan Madi Police Station while the other officer was the orderly to the DPO.

There are conflicting reports regarding how both officers were killed. One report said they were ambushed and killed as they tried to rescue the two women, said to be wives of a prominent business man in the area from the assailants.

Other reports however reveal that the bandits stormed the police station first and killed the officers and stole their weapons before proceeding to abduct the women at their residence.

A villager identified as Abdoul stated that the DPO died protecting the Community members from the bandits. He stated that the bandits were well armed and outnumbered the policemen on duty.

He died as a MAN. No words can express how i feel towards his departure, I didn’t know him in person, but I knew his commitment to ensure lasting security in my local government,” the villager said.

“He’s got killed by bandits, while trying to protect the life of thousands peoples. He refuse to retreat despite the worsening of the situation, the bandits outnumbered his officers on duty and they were well armed. May your soul rest in jannatul firdausi. DPO_TANGAZA_LGA”

Confirming the attack, the Spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police command, ASP Muhammad Sadiq said,

“At the moment, it is confirmed that there was an unwarranted attack on the Gidan Madi Divisional Headquarters last night. I enjoin us all to await further information on the attack at the conclusion of investigation that had already been directed by the Commissioner who is at the moment conducting an on the spot assessment of the Division, please.”
