Bayelsa Records 6 More COVID-19 Deaths

The Bayelsa Government on Saturday announced that the state had recorded six more deaths from COVID-19 pandemic, thereby bringing the total number of fatality in the state to nine.

Dr Inodu Apoku, Deputy Chairman, Bayelsa State Task Force on COVID-19, made the announcement in a statement in Yenagoa.

Apoku, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, said the state had experienced an upsurge in number of infection in the past three days, adding that the total number of infected persons in Bayelsa had risen to 128.

He noted that though some patients had been successfully treated and discharged, people must adhere to the recommended public health advisories, to reduce the spread of the virus in the state.

Apoku said 17 new cases had been recorded in the state as announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday, and added that the Bayelsa government was taking proactive measures in tackling the virus.

“Yesterday, June 19, 2020, a total of 17 new confirmed cases was announced for the state. On June 17, 2020, a total of 25 confirmed cases was also recorded, bringing the total confirmed cases for Bayelsa to 128.

“While we had one patient discharged from our treatment centre at NDUTH, we have unfortunately recorded six new deaths, bringing the total deaths to nine. We currently have 90 active cases of COVID-19.

“It is important to adhere to recommended public health advisories to reduce the spread of the disease. Wear face masks, wash hands regularly and take responsibility to ensure safety,” he said.
