Former American President Barack Obama has included four Nigerian songs in his curated list of favorite music for the year 2023.
The highlighted Nigerian tracks on Obama’s list include ‘Unavailable’ by Davido featuring Musa Keys, ‘Amapiano’ by Asake featuring Olamide, ‘Me & U’ by Tems, and ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ by Burna Boy featuring 21 Savage.
Additionally, South African singer Tyla’s ‘Water’ made its way into Obama’s selection, further reflecting the cross-continental appreciation for African sounds.
Obama’s diverse list encompasses a wide range of genres, including Latino, pop, Afrobeats, hip-hop, grime, reggaeton, reggae, dancehall, R&B, and soul.
Sharing his list via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Obama engaged with his followers, writing, “Here are some of my favorite songs from this year. Let me know if there are any artists or songs I should check out.”
