In a surprising turn of events at the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards held at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center on October 3, 2023 and wasn’t broadcast until last night, Tuesday, October 10, 2023, Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy was unable to secure a win from any of his seven nominations.
The highly anticipated event saw Burna Boy vying for top awards including Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, and Best Live Performer of the Year. However, he faced tough competition and lost in all these categories to the acclaimed Kendrick Lamar.
The night proved challenging for Burna Boy, with further losses in key categories such as Hustler of the Year, where he was defeated by 50Cent, and Best Collaboration of the Year for ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’, which was clinched by Lil Durk and J. Cole’s ‘All My Life’.
Burna Boy’s other nominations included Best Hip Hop Video for ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ and Song of the Year, both of which were also taken by other talented artists.
The outcomes have stirred a wave of disappointment and disbelief among some Nigerians, who question the fairness of the results, expressing their conviction that Burna Boy should have secured at least one win considering his remarkable contributions to the music industry.
