………El-Rufai promises free education
Former military head of state and presidential aspirant under the platform of All Progressives Congress ( APC ), General Muhammadu Buhari yesterday decried the level of infrastructural decay under the ruling Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ) just as he urged Nigerians to come out en-masse to collect their voters cards to vote against incompetent government.
According to him “Your card is your gun against incompetence in the government, and against the deception of Nigerians. We have suffered enough”.
Gen. Buhari, who spoke at the formal declaration of Mal. Nasir El-Rufai to run for the governorship of Kaduna State, said; “It is with the card that we will repair Nigeria. You know what it takes to repair Nigeria, especially the infrastructure, security, and above all employment. Let us get the infrastructure working, let’s get the security materially, physically and morally with our cards,” he said.
Speaking on El-Rufai ‘s aspiration to govern Kaduna in 2015, the former head of state said El-Rufai represents the transformation that Kaduna needs.
“I developed cold feet to come and present El-Rufai to you because of the sacrifices which El-Rufai wanted to make on my behalf which I turned down.
“But he insisted that I must contest and I told him that if I must contest, you must also come out to contest because I believe he has the qualities required to make Kaduna State great again. These qualities are firstly competence, integrity and courage.
“Whoever that is interested in the development of this country, and I have seen the way El-Rufai handled Abuja, we know that El-Rufai loves this country, and he is endowed with these three qualities I have mentioned.
Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has pledgd to offer free and compulsory education for every child living in the state.
El-Rufai, who formally declared interest to run for the governorship of Kaduna State amidst a mammoth crowd, unveiled a five point development agenda if elected governor of the state.
He also promised to ensure the provision of free healthcare for the elderly above the age of 70 and those afflicted with infectious diseases.
According to him, “we shall ensure free antenatal care for pregnant women, free heath are for babies and children up to the age of 5 and free healthcare for people infected with diseases such as ebola, leprosy, tuberculosis etc”.
While insisting that Kaduna will be great again under his leadership, El-Rufai said, “For those worrying about the demolitions that took place in Abuja, let me assure our people that Kaduna and Abuja are completely different in history, growth and priorities.”
“What Kaduna needs are better schools, health facilities and productive farms in an atmosphere of improved peace and security. That will be the focus of APC’s efforts not the scaremongering of impending demolitions.
“We shall rebuild and expand water supply, rural electrification, and roads infrastructure. Our government will invest in our people by improving capacity and delivery in Health, Education and Social Welfare. We shall energetically promote Agriculture and Food Security, while implementing Land Reform as a basis for wealth creation and capital formation,” said El-Rufai.
