The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has invited Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo SAN over his petition calling on the bureau to arrest, interrogate and prosecute former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for corruption.

Keyamo’s lawyer, John Ainetor confirmed the invitation via a statement dated Thursday, March 30.

“The Code of Conduct Bureau is set to commence investigation of Atiku Abubakar over the diversion of public funds whilst he was Vice-President of Nigeria through Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV).

“The Bureau has invited our client Mr. Festus Keyamo to come forward to adopt his petition and to help it to secure the presence of the whistleblower, Mr. Michael Achimugu to assist in the investigation,” Ainetor said.

He added, “Mr. Keyamo assures that the crusade for accountability in respect of this issue was not a campaign gimmick as he promises to follow it through to a logical conclusion, even after the victory of the President-Elect, ASIWAJU Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

A copy of the invitation letter sighted by this newspaper showed that Keyamo was invited via a letter dated March 28, 2023, and signed by SP Gwimi, CCB’s Director of Investigation, Intelligence and Monitoring on behalf of the Chairman of the bureau.

In the build up to the February 25 presidential election, Keyamo, who doubles as Official Spokesperson of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, had given the bureau 72 hours to arrest, interrogate and prosecute Atiku, who was PDP presidential candidate, over damning allegations by one Michael Achimugu.

Achimugu alleged that as VP, Atiku used SPVs to corruptly enrich himself.

According to the letter, the minister is to appear before the bureau at 2pm on April 21 at its office in the Federal Secretariat Complex, Maitama, Abuja
