Following coronavirus outbreak in Nigeria, the House of Representatives has suspended plenary for two weeks.
The lower chamber says the tw0-week recess would enable the management of the National Assembly install screening facilities at the complex.
House Minority Leader, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu moved a motion for the closure of the lower chamber.
He noted that this would enable lawmakers to aid in the screening and detection of the virus while allaying the fears of their constituents.
Also, the House adopted a motion moved by a lawmaker from Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Josiah Edem, which called for immediate and comprehensive tackling of the global epidemic in Nigeria.
Recall that a 44-year-old Italian man brought coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, into Nigeria last week.
He is presently being quarantined at the Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba.
However, Commissioner for Health in Lagos State, Prof. Akin Abayomi disclosed that more than 100 persons that came in contact with the index patient are still being traced.
The number is increasing every day, he told Reuters on Sunday.
The commissioner added that the index case is making progress in his treatment and would be released from the facility when medical personnel deem it safe.
