Court jails man 5 months for stealing zinc

A Grade 1 Area Court, Karu, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 21-year-old man, Sebullahi Mohammed to five months imprisonment for stealing six pieces of zinc roofing sheets.

Mohammed, a resident of Kugbo, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft and begged for mercy.

The judge, Hassan Ishaq, in his judgment, gave the convict an option to pay N13,000 as fine.

Prosecutor Vincent Osiji had told the court that one Akeem Lateef of Kugbo Furniture, FCT, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station, Abuja, on Feb. 21.

Osiji said the complainant alleged that the convict trespassed into his shop located at Kugbo Furniture, Abuja, and stole six pieces of zinc belonging to him.

He added that the convict was apprehended and the stolen zinc recovered from his possession.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
