COVID 19: NYSC Introduces Use of Infrared Thermometers, Others in Niger

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Niger had introduced the use of infrared thermometers, hand sanitizers and hand washing basins in all its secretariats and orientation camps as part of proactive measures against the Coronavirus.

Mrs Funmilayo Ajayi, Coordinator of NYSC in Niger, disclosed this during the swearing-in ceremony of Batch ‘A’ corps members for 2020 orientation course at the NYSC orientation camp in Paiko on Thursday.

According to her, following the discovery of the Coronavirus in the country, NYSC has taken proactive measure in all NYSC secretariats and orientation camps.

She added that sensitisation leaflets on Lassa fever and Coronavirus have been distributed to corps members undergoing orientation course to provide them information on the viruses and how to prevent infection.

Ajayi, however, disclosed that a total of 1,774 corps members have been registered for the orientation course, adding that the corps members consisted of 907 females and 867 males.

In his address, Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger, urged the corps members to see the orientation course as an avenue to prepare them for the task ahead.

Bello, who was represented by Hajiya Hannatu Salihu, Commissioner for Education, advised the corps members to take entrepreneurship programme seriously to make them self-reliant during and after their service year.

In his remark, Alhaji Ahmed Matane, Secretary to the Niger State Government and Chairman of NYSC Board, said that there was ongoing upgrade of facilities to make the orientation camp conducive for the corps members.
