During a state wide broadcast yesterday, Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Ameachi said Independent National Electoral Commission should not to disenfranchise any eligible voter in the state and he also urged all eligible voters to get their cards so that they can exercise their democratic right.

The Governor also said INEC should ensure a hitch-free exercise in the state.

Ameachi said “As a government, desirous of ensuring sustainable development for our people, and one with the firm belief in the power of the people to make a positive change, we have found it necessary to talk to you on this important civic responsibility.

“In spite of the various challenges experienced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), we urge our citizens not to relent in participating in the exercise. It is our hope that the electoral body will do all that is necessary to ensure a hitch-free exercise in the state, and that no eligible voter is denied his card or registration.

“Through this participation, we can individually and collectively elect credible men and women into various positions in the forthcoming 2015 general elections. Your Permanent Voter Registration Card guarantees you a voice in governance.

“As a government, we will not relent in upholding the tenets of democracy and remain committed to the provision of basic infrastructure and services to our people. Democracy is about the people. Your Voters Card is your instrument to ensure good governance and accountability. We therefore, urge you all to participate effectively in this all- important exercise.”

Ameachi also accused President Goodluck Jonathan and Peoples Democratic Party of sponsoring the activities of Boko Haram in the North so as to prevent All Progressives Congress from winning elections in the affected states come 2015.

He listed Bornu, Yobe and Adamawa as the states affected. He said “the political calculation is that we don’t get votes in those states.”

He insisted that President is not serious about stopping activities of Boko Haram because of his political ambition.

Permanent Voters Card Distribution commenced yesterday in Rivers, Nasarawa and nine local governments in Lagos State. The PVC distribution was earlier rescheduled by INEC.

Continuous Voters Registration will take place, December 3rd to December 8th in these states.

Meanwhile PVC distribution in Kaduna and Katsina States will take place from December 6th to December 8th while CVR will take place from December 10th to December 15th.

In Niger and Bornu States, PVC distribution will take place from December 12th to December 14th and CVR will take place from December 17th to December 22nd.
